If you were a famous architect designing your personal residence or “forever” home, what would you do differently than your typical commission? It’s a great question to ponder while admiring William Pereira’s freshly listed home in Los Angeles.
Whatever way you slice it, William Pereira had a truly remarkable career. As an architect, Pereira was part of some 250 projects including Chicago’s Esquire Theatre, LAX’s Theme Building, SF’s Transamerica Pyramid, and the Geisel (Dr. Seuss) Library in San Diego. During a stint as a Hollywood creative, Pereira won an Oscar for his work on the 1942 film Reap the Wild Wind. He remains one of just a handful of architects to be featured on the cover of Time magazine (others include Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra and Le Corbusier).
Pereira’s personal residence, archived as The William and Margaret Isabelle Pereira House, recently hit the market for the first time in 40 years. The 1960 home was built by Paul Levine and photographed by Julius Shulman for House and Garden magazine in 1962. For a cool $5.5M, this iconic LA home could be yours.
