Some parking spots are better than others. Today we’re appreciating the carport with some of our favorite open-air automotive accommodations and, you guessed it, Porsches.
Hailey House - Constructed on a steep hillside in Los Angeles, this 1959 project by Richard Neutra is a proper time capsule. Patrick O’Neill’s 1967 912 looks right at home.
Hart Residence - The Hart Residence (1950), designed by A. Quincy Jones and Whitney R. Jones, features a lovely sloped roof that overhangs into an integrated carport. It’s simple and makes for perfect 911 parking (anything much bigger might not fit). The home was featured prominently in Julius Shulman's 1950 photography of Los Angeles and recently sold for a reported $3.85 million.
Case Study House #21 - Lesser known than its sibling The Stahl House, Pierre Koenig’s Case Study House #21 (aka Bailey House), survives today in remarkably original condition. The home’s floor-to-ceiling glass allows for automotive views directly from the kitchen table, in this case an equally well-preserved Speedster.

Have you gone on any tours of these MCM icons in Los Angeles? I was looking at doing that when I was there about a year ago, but I think the time of year was working against me because a lot of them were limited in hours, closed for the season, or just open for special events (which were not happening at the time). Still would like to someday. A dream tour would be of the Chemosphere.
