An L.A. architectural icon, the Sheats-Goldstein Residence is as “Hollywood” as it gets. Featured countless times in media and celebrated by architects and A-list actors alike, this mid-century marvel boasts accolades and history for days. Our favorite part though? Rooftop tennis.

Originally built by John Lautner for the Sheats family between 1961 and 1963, the residence has undergone several serious updates since then, including what might be the world’s coolest tennis court. Current owner (and NBA super-fan) James Goldstein collaborated directly with Lautner and subsequent architects to expand and enhance the property over the decades. Notably, Kristopher Conner and James Perry of Conner + Perry Architects have overseen additions since 2015. These architects previously worked with Lautner's apprentice, Duncan Nicholson, who continued work after Lautner's passing.

The latest addition, the ‘Goldstein Entertainment Complex’, sits near the original residence and tennis court. Lautner originally envisioned it tucked beneath the main house, but construction challenges led to its placement under the court. While a model of Lautner's design hangs inside, the current complex boasts a nightclub, VIP area, offices, a terrace, a pool, and a spa. Future plans are reported to include a screening room, reception area, and a guesthouse.

Given its cultural significance, Goldstein entrusted the home to LACMA for public access, ensuring this architectural gem inspires future generations.
