If you’ve followed along, you are already well aware of my long-standing obsession with carports. One of my favorite carport-blessed homes, Neutra’s Hailey House, is for sale now.
The home is a lovely example of preservation done right. Located in the East Hollywood Hills, the Jason Hailey House is a 1958/59 Richard Neutra residence that has been carefully restored to preserve its original design. The home remains largely intact thanks to a series of owners/caretakers who maintained the home’s authenticity. The latest restoration, directed by Neutra scholar Barbara Lamprecht in collaboration with artist and decorator Anthony Barsoumian and Andrew Gray Studio, was guided by Neutra’s original plans and notes.
Original Philippine mahogany panels and redwood elements were refinished, and updates such as glass balcony railings, renovated kitchen and bathrooms, and a neutral color scheme enhance light and flow. The design includes movable walls for flexible space use and expansive glass openings that connect the interior with the surrounding landscape. Modern features, including Miele appliances, central air conditioning, and integrated sound, were added quite discreetly. It’s now ready for some new/old car to park our front.
