Tadao Ando might just be the greatest living architect. We profiled the 82-year old icon a few months back (check it out here).

While Ando’s portfolio is extensive, personal residences designed by the self-taught master are rare, especially in the U.S. where just 20 or so homes exist. Jay-Z and Beyonce bought one such home last year for a reported $200M USD price tag.

Fellow musician and former collaborator Kanye West also scooped up a waterfront Ando home in Malibu back in 2021, before taking the home along for a wild ride. The New Yorker recently released a killer profile of the home’s journey. The article of course chronicles all the sordid details related to West’s remodeling/demolition of the space. More interesting though, are the rich details about Ando, his process, and his studio.
